Win a $20,000 ESAB Shopping Spree for Your Welding School

ESAB Welding & Cutting Products has announced a content called Weld It Forward which will offer equipment, filler metal, and cash prizes for welding students and schools.  The contest, which supports secondary and post-secondary schools with a technical or vocational focus, will have two phases: an essay and a fabricated metal project.

Phase 1: The Essay

For the essay, students will have 500 words or less to summarize why their school should be selected as a semi-finalist to compete in Phase 2 of the contest – Metal Fabrication Project. The essay is submitted by the instructor on behalf of the welding program, and should be a collaboration by the students and the instructor. A school may submit up to 3 essays.

The essay should support the contest theme: Weld It Forward. For example, entrants may describe how the welding program at their school helps to:

  • Shape character
  • Positively affect daily life or the lives of others
  • Influence or empower a student’s potential as a welding professional

Six semi-finalists (3 high schools, 3 post-secondary schools) will be chosen through the essay contest phase. Each of the six semi-finalist schools participating in the Weld It Forward Team Metal Fabrication Project will be awarded an equipment package with a value of more than $6,900 and consisting of the following items:

  • 1 ESAB Rebel EMP 235ic Welding Systems
  • 1 ESAB Rebel EM 215
  • 1 Thermal Dynamics® Cutmaster™ 60i Manual Plasma System
  • 1 Victor® Journeyman EDGE™ 2.0 Outfit
  • 2 Sentinel™A50 helmets
  • 6 pair MIG gloves and 6 pair TIG gloves
  • ESAB Wire Package
Phase 2: Metal Fabrication Project

Along with the equipment package, ESAB will ship each semi-finalist school identical project kits containing an assortment of metal shapes and components, all of which must be integrated into a fabricated project using some or all of the ESAB equipment provided. Students may use supplementary metal and equipment.

The student team must thoroughly document the project build with images, videos, plans, blueprints and/or bill of materials. ESAB will then post the six final projects online for the general public to vote to help us select two grand prize winners: one high school, one post-secondary school.

Each grand prize winning school will receive an equipment “make over” of their welding program. The welding instructor will work with their local ESAB sales representative to choose the specific ESAB equipment that best suits their school’s needs, for a total retail value not to exceed $20,000 per school. ESAB equipment may be across the following categories:

  • Welding systems
  • Manual or automated air plasma systems
  • Crossbow cutting systems
  • Oxy Fuel cutting outfits
  • Filler Metals
  • Personal Protection Equipment (PPE)
